MEET JOVITA
Born and raised in Oakland, my husband and I moved to Brentwood 23 years ago to start a family. We’re blessed to have raised our two daughters in this incredible town. I’m a Data Analytics Manager for a wine & spirits company, applying my skills to preserve the city’s budget and craft effective policies for Brentwood.
My journey in community advocacy began in 2010 when I joined fellow residents to rally and defeat Measure F. That was just the beginning. Residents faced another contentious rezone threatening to shut down portions of the Shadow Lakes Golf Course to build 3 story apartments overlooking existing homes. I fought against that, and we won again. In 2019, I led a grass roots campaign to drive record voter turnout to defeat Measure L, a developer-backed initiative to enrich special interests. You’ll recall, Measure L was distastefully supported by the City Council to bamboozle Brentwood residents into approving an expansion of our urban limit line into county land, enabling the construction of 2,800 homes without any long-term benefit to the community.
After the community rallied to defeat Measure L with a decisive 71%-29% vote and energized by our success I decided to take my advocacy to the next level, running for city council in 2020. My promise was to be “Better For Brentwood” – putting Residents before Special Interests. It’s one thing to make waves as a community activist and challenge the status quo. It’s another thing entirely to translate that activism into governing and actual policy. With your support I’ve done exactly that, delivering on those promises I made 4 years ago. We're laying the groundwork to push for more resident-focused initiatives in the future.
I don’t accept private meetings with special interest groups and can’t be bought. Relentless support for Brentwood residents requires authentic leadership. I'll continue to hold our city government and elected officials accountable, demanding transparency. We're a people-powered campaign that remains steadfast in its allegiance to residents. I hope to earn your vote again this November. Together, we’re Better For Brentwood.
